The Bank of Japan broadened its corporate funding support appraises beyond their planned expiry in September, and it kept rates of interest on hold. The impact was bounded as the moves were within expectations.

Some analysts also said big bars of both buy and sell orders in futures were creating excitability in a thin cash market.

The market earlier filled out gains after upbeat results from Goldman Sachs and Intel lifted hopes of a retrieval for the global economy and helped weaken the yen.

"There are desires for corporate earnings, but it's still hard to imagine many companies will appear and revise up their earnings prospects," said Junichi Misawa, senior fund manager at STB Asset Management.

"With fairly overly optimistic views on the economic retrieval receding, the market now wants to take a look at embodied profit."
